Visual Brand Language for Vertiv
Vertiv is a digital infrastructure provider with a global family of trusted brands. As they established a separate identity from Emerson Network Power and acquired new companies, it became clear that they needed a strong visual brand language to unite their new family of products.
As part of the team at Zukun Plan, I assisted in the development of this visual brand language. We focused on communicating Verity’s key tenets through form, color, and finish while developing a strategic guideline to carry the new brand language into future products.

The most helpful visual brand language is not so prescriptive that it’s paralyzing, neither so descriptive that it’s too vague. An effective design language is prescriptive when necessary for perceived consistency, and descriptive when helpful to allow for variation.
Our final hand-off was the design of several “hero” products that represented various product categories from Vertiv’s offering, as well as a Visual Brand Language Guideline interactive pdf document for them to reference in future product development.
I really enjoy these types of projects that mix “traditional” industrial design with the design of a full system. Every decision has a weight and impact that goes so much farther than just one product. I love the problem-solving and future planning a project like this requires, as well as the consolidation and at the end.
The deconstruction of the Vertiv logo inspired the forms and shapes of the final design language.
